Spare Tires

Okay so you just graduate from University, you get a cool job with a kick ass salary, what do you do? You need a place to stay, replace the university clothes with real cothes, replace university furniture with real furniture, some other random things like kitchen supplies and lamps and then you decide about la voiture...

You just graduated, 4-5 years of school, you want something nice, especially since you are moving to the other side of country (random example : east->west of U.S.). Now if you are in Redmond you have too many choices, nice cars are everywhere and even more dealers that want to sell them to you. You can get a BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi whatever you want is available, and maybe you already decided you want a 318ci BMW or maybe an X3. But then you find a nice 1986 car for a fraction of the price and pay cash for it, take it to the dealer the next week and find out it has more leaks then the code you wrote in first year. Wait a minute what just happened, I thought you wanted the BMW? The Audi? Not even a VW??

Nope you got a used car, and not a 5 or 6 year old used car a 1986, so old that the car is called Legend. Now there is nothing wrong with a used car, and I actually recommend getting one when you graduate. I mean what is the point of getting a brand new car that will lose 30% of its value as soon you sign the contract (I'm sorry if these numbers aren't correct and misleading, but I'm just painting a picture here, oh and the fact that its a Legend is random too).

Now there is a point in getting this if you've always wanted a new car, been saving up money etc... If it is a conscious financial decision I can understand, but if you don't really know what you want, you just need a vehicle why not get a used car, they will last a few years and then you can get you Bentley or Bugatti... But be careful with the used used cars, take them to a mechanic before making the final purchase. Sometimes you can find this service where a mechanic actually comes with you to see the car and does a 100+ point inspection on the spot in about an hour for 100 bucks, pretty good.

Even if you get a lemon, you can always work on it and get to know it intimately, which is very rewarding (got milk theme music in the background).
